When Lakehouse completed building the new Sure Start Children's Centre, on the site of Galliard Primary School, Edmonton, the site team thought the occasion deserved a special guest.
Kriss Akabusi, Olympic medalist and world-class athlete, was invited to officially open the centre, organised to coincide with the school's 70th birthday celebration. Kriss lived locally for much of his childhood and spoke of his inspirational life, and his memories of playing football against Galliard School when he belonged to a rival school's football team.
Gerry Green, Site Manager, said, "We've thoroughly enjoyed working with Rosemarie Hopkins [Headteacher] and her staff. I'll be keeping an eye on the progress of the children perhaps some of them will grow up to be Olympic athletes of the future."
