Lakehouse's '500 Families Scheme'

Monkey masks, Indian classical dance, and story building fantasies were all part of Discover's fantastic celebrations on Friday 25 July 2008 to launch the 500 Families Scheme, sponsored by Lakehouse.

Dozens of local children and families flocked to Discover in Stratford on one of the warmest nights of the year, and enjoyed a fabulous high-energy and fun-packed party in the centre's Story Garden. Giving them an especially warm welcome were some of Lakehouse's directors, including Sean Birrane, who said, "Lakehouse refurbished Discover's derelict basement last year and through that experience we saw the fantastic work achieved by the centre. It is with great pleasure that we support this scheme, which is very much in keeping with the ethics of Lakehouse." Sean was on hand to present a cheque for £12,000 to Sally Goldsworthy, the centre's Director.

Thousands of children from all over East London will be able to take advantage of a free 500 Families pass. The scheme will distribute 500 free annual passes a year to families who ordinarily might not be able to access Discover's year-round creative play, arts and literacy-based programmes.
