Community Involvement
Supporting jobs, Advice and Training Fair 2010 for Kensington & Chelsea Borough Council

Sherwar Iqbal joined Lakehouse on a work experience placement. During an initial discussion with him it became clear that corporate Social Responsibility was an area of particular interest for Sherwar, partly because it involved helping local communities and also because Sherwar wanted to get involved in a broad range of initiatives. Kensington and Chelsea's 'Jobs, Advice and Training Fair' was one of the many initiatives that Sherwar participated in.

The event was held early in July 2010, and Sherwar joined members of the CSR Team, to man the Lakehouse stand and take part in a presentation. The aim of the event, which was opened by the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, was to help the general public and local residents to find out more about jobs in the local area, and to provide advice on careers and career changes.

The team provided information about Lakehouse - where we work and the services we offer, handing out information packs to visitors. Details were taken of anyone keen to work in the construction industry, from individuals looking to get a first step on the ladder, to local small business keen to become part of our supply chain.

Roxy Hotten, Employment Initiatives Officer for Kensington and Chelsea Borough council, said "Thank you so much for participating in our jobs fair; your contribution was invaluable. We are delighted that you brought someone along someone that could speak of their early work experience at Lakehouse, especially since we had so many young people attend the event."
