Summer fun in Hackney with Industrial Dwellings Society

Evelyn Court in Hackney, an estate owned and managed by housing association Industrial Dwellings Society (IDS), played host to a summer fun day on the afternoon of Saturday 15 August 2009. The event was timed to coincide with the 75th birthday of Evelyn Court and Lakehouse volunteers joined residents, their friends and families for the celebrations.

Lakehouse's Health and Wellbeing Roadshow, a new initiative that has been rolled out during the summer holidays, has been a massive success at similar fun days for Russet Homes, Newham Homes, Richmond Housing Partnership and CityWest Homes. A health and wellbeing stall kept everyone at Evelyn Court topped up with fresh fruit juices free of charge all day and volunteers gave advice on healthy eating habits. The Lakehouse football competition encouraged everyone to take some exercise and the lucky winner was presented with a top of the range bicycle. Lakehouse's Sales Director Paul King joined the panel to judge the Talent Competition, watching members of the local community entertain those present, including special guest Councillor Clayeon McKenzie, Deputy Speaker of Hackney.

Lakehouse has worked at Evelyn Court for the past five years to deliver a major modernisation programme, bringing around 320 flats up to the 'Decent Homes' standard, installing new kitchens and bathrooms, and heat recovery systems.
