Raising funds for Jimmy Mizen Bus Appeal at Leathermarket JMB's community fun day

Lakehouse volunteers were out in the community on 22 August 2009 to show their support for a fun day, organised by client, Leathermarket JMB, a resident-run organisation which manages over 1,500 homes in Borough and Bermondsey.

The event was staged at the Kipling Estate, close to the offices of Leathermarket JMB. The fun activities kicked off at 12 noon and included free barbeque and soft drinks, bouncy castle, go karting, face painting, and a range of stalls including 'hook a duck', and wet sponge stocks. Best of all was the football skills training provided by Millwall coaching staff, followed by a 5-a-side football competition which saw company mascot, Lenny Lakehouse, beat Millwall mascot, Zampa the lion, in a penalty shoot out.

On the day Lakehouse helped to raise funds for the Jimmy Mizen Bus Appeal which will purchase a minibus for the local scout group - 21st Lewisham North. Leathermarket JMB had previously provided Jimmy with a two week work placement with their repair team. They were so impressed with his attitude that they encouraged him to apply for their apprenticeship scheme. In May 2008, a few months before he could take up the offer of an apprenticeship, Jimmy was killed after being attacked in a bakery in Lee. Jimmy had been enjoying a day off from working in his father's shoe repair business, having celebrated his sixteenth birthday the day before.
