On 23 and 24 June 2010 Lakehouse intern Julius Ocitti, and future jobs trainee Sherwar Iqbal, volunteered to join Contracts Manager Sam Bibby at Greenwich Heritage Centre, in support of 'World of Works'. The annual event targets primary schools within Greenwich, and aims to raise awareness of careers and ways into work. More than 480 students came along to take part in a range of activities including:
- A challenge to identify potential hazards
- A competition to design a health and safety poster
- Drawing, colouring and quiz opportunities
- Question and answer sessions
- Opportunities to try on personal protective equipment
It was a perfect opportunity for Lakehouse to share information about careers in construction, and raise awareness of health and safety in the workplace. Students were split into small groups of 4 to 5, spending just under an hour at each work station. At the end of each session each group was given 5 minutes to create a poster to demonstrate the knowledge they had gained from the experience.
Paula O'Donnell, Project Manager of Greenwich Education Business Partnership, appreciated the support provided by Lakehouse, saying "The Lakehouse activity was informative and fun. Thank you to the whole team for their efforts."
