The grand opening of the newly built Alderton Sure Start, in Loughton, was held on 4 October 2008, to celebrate its successful completion and to raise awareness of the services the children's centre has to offer the local community.
Despite cold and wet weather the fun-packed event was attended by over 50 families who enjoyed a range of activities including a bouncy castle, Bob the builder challenge, football coaching from Tottenham FC, drawing, face painting, refreshments and stalls from a range of stakeholders from the local community.
Lakehouse sponsored a mural activity and the bouncy castle as well as plants and pots for every child to create and take home. A surprise appearance was made by company mascot, Larry Lakehouse, much to the delight of the children who were keen to have their photos taken with him. Staff were thrilled when Sarah Atkinson, one of Lakehouse's Resident Liaison Officers, donated an oil painting of the centre which she had painted herself; the painting has since been mounted in the reception area of the children's centre as a welcome to all its visitors.
