Community Involvement
Lakehouse backs Youth and Active Citizenship Safety Event

Live performances, non-contact boxing, workshops in hairdressing, body massage, reflexology and a football tournament were just some of the attractions on the menu at an exciting Youth and Active Citizenship Safety event at the Priory Park Centre, East Ham, on 1 August 2009. The event was organised by Newham Homes in partnership with Newceys (Newham Community Education and Youth Service) and the Boleyn Safer Neighbourhoods Team and designed to engage the community and encourage the involvement of local young people. The main aim was to bring Newham Homes' services out of the office to the doorstep of its residents and to promote safer, more secure communities.

Members of Lakehouse's social housing team volunteered to show support, setting up a stall to provide healthy juice drinks free of charge for all visitors, whilst promoting local apprenticeship opportunities and providing advice on careers within the construction industry. As well as providing prizes for the free draw, including a hi-spec bicycle and £100 worth of vouchers, Lakehouse organised a football competition, challenging everyone to score as many goals out of a possible ten. The worthy winner was rewarded with prize vouchers.

Children had plenty to keep them entertained with bouncy castles, face painting and arts and crafts activities. Live performances showcased up and coming young talent, including live singing. and contemporary dance and a taste of African story telling, drama and drumming was provided by the Iroko Theatre Company.
