On 1 August 2009 Lenny Lakehouse, company mascot, and other members of the Lakehouse team, joined CityWest Homes to celebrate its 'Great Communities Day' at the Lisson Green estate, in north west London. Around 18,000 residents were invited along to participate in a huge programme of activities for children of all ages, including a City Farm, fairground rides, 5 a side football tournament and around 35 stalls, all offering something different.
A health and advice zone was set up to encourage community well being and offered visitors back massage, blood pressure tests and advice from the local primary care trust. Other advice and information was offered by national and local providers such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, CHAS and CityWest Homes' own 'Ways into Work' initiative. Filipino, Bengali and English food and refreshments were available to everyone throughout the day, catering for the tastes of the diverse local community.
The highlight of the day was an awards ceremony which recognised local residents who have worked tirelessly to help the community. The Great Neighbour Award was presented to three outstanding residents who each received a community cash reward, sponsored by Lakehouse. Everyone was a winner on the day and each of the runners up received a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers.
The steel band, also sponsored by Lakehouse, made a fantastic musical tribute on the day, supported by Lenny Lakehouse who showed off some of his rarely seen dance moves, much to the amusement of the crowds.
