Construction News Award 2011 - Training

At a gala awards dinner on 13 July at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Lakehouse was announced winner of the prestigious Construction News Training Award. Lakehouse has been recognised many times over the past two years as one of the best of the construction industry, winning 19 awards in 2010. The latest award is the company's fourth in as many months, following HM The Queen's Award for Enterprise:Sustainable Development, a Business in the Community Award for Skills in the Workplace, and a Building Award for Diversity Champion of the Year.

At the Construction News Awards Chief Construction Advisor Paul Morrell gave a rousing speech, saying "If you've won, you should be very proud that this extraordinary panel of judges have decided you're really rather good people. If you haven't won, let's be proud that you are still standing in these tough times. That we work in an industry that gives us the places that we live and work, and that produces a job that none of us would swap for any other. We work in an industry that produces great stuff and great people, so let's be proud."

Lakehouse's founder and CEO Steve Rawlings is indeed proud: "It's an honour to receive this award, and great to be recognised for our achievements - training and developing not just our own people, but members of our supply chain and the wider community. Our Building Lives Training Academy is proving to be very successful, and I'm glad that we are in a position to help some seriously disadvantaged people to get back on their feet, learn new skills and achieve a recognised qualification with real job prospects at the finish line." Lakehouse plans to replicate its successful model at Arlington House, Camden, in other areas across London over the next two years, including sharing space with a Thames Reach employment project in South London next year.

Steve Rawlings added "Lakehouse would not be the success it is, without the continued hard work and enthusiasm of our people. In these difficult times, we appreciate their loyalty and commitment more than ever."

Other companies that were shortlisted for this award included Thomas Vale Construction and Wates Group.
