British Construction Industry Awards 2010 - Small Building Project

Lowther Children's Centre, south west London, has been recognized at the British Construction Industry (BCI) Awards, with an award for 'Small Building Project'. The event, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, attracted over 900 industry professionals. It's the third award for the £1.4million scheme, which has already secured a RIBA and a Civic Trust Award.

The prestigious BCI Awards celebrate the quality demonstrated by the construction industry, and encourage innovation, management best practice and team work. The close collaboration and full engagement of London Borough of Richmond, Patel Taylor, Lakehouse, and the teaching staff throughout the project is one of the areas which helped to make it stand out as a model for the future. Judges commented: "An exceptionally harmonious and transparent team has delivered a project which sets a new benchmark for reception and primary school design and delivery."

The team has created exemplary new nursery reception classes and external play spaces, transforming the school into a real hub for the local community. A new single storey extension has enabled room for expansion and the relocation of facilities from outdated and undersized temporary accommodation, and the remodelling of the reception and administration areas has made the school more accessible to the community.
