Lakehouse volunteers support Southend Connexions Careers Fair

9 Feb 2011

Lakehouse volunteers spent an enjoyable and productive day at the Southend Connexions Youth Centre in Shoeburyness on 2 February. with over 1,700 secondary school students. We were there to support the Southend Connexions Careers Fair and to promote careers in construction.

The fair was held at a brand new youth centre called SYC, where over 60 exhibitors, including Lakehouse, took a stand in the large sports hall. The fair was officially opened by Mayoress Ann Holland at 9.30am, and teachers and students flooded through the doors immediately afterwards, many of them from the school next door - Shoeburyness High School.

We were kept busy throughout the day with bus loads of students from schools in the area. Our team gave advice and guidance on careers in construction to those students who did not know what they wanted to do when they leave school. Those that had already developed some interest in the construction industry were keen to find out more about the options available. Some were considering university and others diplomas or apprenticeships. We were able to advise on all routes into the industry, and were pleased with the level of interest.
