Lowther Children's Centre awarded Civic Trust Award 2010

12 Mar 2010

Lowther Children's Centre is one of only five projects in Greater London to have been awarded a Civic Trust Award.

Civic Trust Awards Managing Director, Malcolm Hankey said "We were delighted to see such a diverse range of projects submitted for consideration. The Civic Trust Awards celebrate not only the design excellence, but also the relationship between structures, places, the environment and local communities. This year's group of winners successfully illustrate how this relationship can produce effective and imaginative solutions."

Designed to replace an ageing nursery, the attractive modern new building fits smoothly into its suburban street location. The innovative use of renewable energy systems and the careful selection of sustainable materials make the building a great example of how future buildings may be designed.

Staff, children and users of the building say it is a wonderful place to work, play and visit and is a much appreciated addition to the community.

Lakehouse completed the building in August 2009 and is eagerly awaiting confirmation of the building's BREEAM credentials.
