A new children's centre at Lowther Primary School, Richmond upon Thames, is one of eleven prestigious projects to be shortlisted for the annual Civic Trust Awards, which will take place on 12th March at St. George's Hall in Liverpool.
George Clarke, architect and TV presenter, will present the awards which are given to projects that are culturally, socially or economically beneficial, and make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment.
The £1.4M project is the first BREEAM project that Lakehouse has undertaken. The centre was designed with the intention of minimising the negative environmental impacts associated with the construction, operation and eventual demolition of the building. The centre is therefore highly thermally insulated, utilises highly efficient building services (heating, lighting etc.), low water usage and is built from materials which do not have high negative environmental impact.
