The London Borough of Croydon has awarded Lakehouse a £2.8M project to amalgamate Duppas and Waddon Schools, at Goodwin Road, South Croydon. The existing junior school will remain occupational throughout the contract, which will be undertaken in four phases in order to safeguard the children and minimise disruption.
The development comprises the construction of a new children's centre and new classrooms, and the refurbishment of existing classrooms. All the new buildings will be single storey, with strip foundations, and suspended beam and block floors.
1200 square metres of green roof will be installed, providing vibrant splashes of colour and interest to the roofscape whilst also providing an element of support for the local ecology. The sedum blanket will give instant plant coverage as the sedums are grown to maturity before being available for harvesting, ensuring that they acclimatise quickly to their rooftop location.
The 47 week project will start early in November 2009 and is expected to achieve a BREEAM rating of 'Very Good'.
