Lakehouse a front runner in 'Retrofit for the Future' competition

13 Aug 2009

As part of the Government's drive to cut carbon emissions in social housing, the Technology Strategy Board has launched a £10M competition 'Retrofit for the Future'. The competition is strictly for houses drawn from social housing stock and Lakehouse has partnered with the London Borough of Newham, London Borough of Camden and East Thames Group to develop three separate proposals. We are delighted to announce that all three applications have been successful and the Technology Strategy Board has provided funding for the feasibility/design stage.

The competition focuses on some of the key issues and policies in the Government's Heat and Energy Saving Strategy Consultation. 'Retrofit for the Future' is challenging landlords, consultants and the construction industry to develop and demonstrate innovative whole house solutions for refurbishment that deliver big cuts in energy use and carbon emissions, high levels of comfort and attractive costs.

This is an excellent opportunity for Lakehouse to show the social housing sector what it can deliver. If successful Lakehouse will be awarded Demonstration Project status and will receive 100% funding to implement each successful proposal. This will place Lakehouse in the enviable position of being able to promote its expertise in this field and align itself with clients seeking to procure retrofit works.

The process is being managed by the Technology Strategy Board in collaboration with the Homes Community Agency. Competitive bids will be judged on innovation and potential for impact as well as projected build cost.
