Lakehouse has been appointed to build the UK's first centre of excellence in low carbon technologies for buildings. The Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB) at London South Bank University (LSBU) will be opened in April 2010 by Mayor Boris Johnson.

Created in partnership with City and Kingston Universities, leaders in training and research in the built environment, the £1.2M centre will be at the forefront of low carbon building design. CEREB will be a unique resource for teaching, research and demonstration of low carbon energy technologies and will provide a fantastic showcase for photovoltaics, solar thermal, geothermal and wind power.

Developed as a specially designed walk through demonstration facility at roof level on the university's new Keyworth II building, CEREB is set to become the heart of the LSBU Southwark campus. It will provide direct access to the building's installed mechanical engineering and renewable low carbon energy technologies. There will also be teaching space for around 50 people theatre style, or 30 for project work.

These facilities will be available to students, researchers, academics, the construction industry and others. Output data from the technologies will also be available through web-based virtual learning environments to enable the centre to benefit a wider audience through a CEREB web portal.
