Over a three month period (September - December) Lakehouse and Brent Housing Partnership have literally been breathing new life into Brent through the regeneration of a large section of the Brentfield Housing Estate, adjacent to the busy North Circular Road. 115 homes are enjoying improvements including double glazing, external wall insulation, loft insulation and new roofs.
Lakehouse's technical roofing team were certain that the best result would be achieved through the combination of Marley Eternit's EcoLogic roof tiles (50% recycled content) and Solarcentury's C21e solar electric (PV) roof tiles. Despite being advised that it was impossible to combine the two tiles Lakehouse brought both manufacturers together and worked with them to find an innovative solution - the 'Smart Roof System'.
The 'Smart Roof System' achieves three environmentally friendly benefits simultaneously: the removal of nitrogen oxide pollutants from the air via the titanium dioxide-coated, EcoLogic tiles; the utilisation of recycled content in the concrete EcoLogic tiles; and the provision of clean, free electricity via the solar electric (PV) roof tiles - an amount equivalent to around a third of each household's annual electricity consumption. The combination of upgrades has resulted in a 33% improvement in energy efficiency and a 43% improvement in environmental impact.
If there is one thing that Lakehouse understands, it's the need to provide innovative and sustainable construction solutions. Identifying what needs to be done and applying alternative and intelligent thinking is something we bring to each new project. Put another way; it's about never accepting "This can't be done" and "We've always done things like this".
Through 'breathing new life into Brent', Lakehouse is applying that philosophy and significantly improving the standard of living for 115 residents, as well as combining three powerful, sustainable elements, to produce an outstanding result.
