150 residents gathered at the Tybalds Estate, Holborn, on 29th October to celebrate the first year of Camden's Decent Homes programme with a community fun day organised by Lakehouse. During the first year 2,000 homes have benefited from Decent Homes improvements; 1,900 bathrooms and 1,800 kitchens have been refurbished or replaced.
A range of fun activities promoting health and wellbeing were on offer as well as information and advice. Residents enjoying the free fun burnt up some energy on the bouncy castle and then refuelled at the free fruit stall. Also on offer were face painting, an arts and crafts stall, and a football competition. Fantastic prizes were up for grabs, including box tickets to an Arsenal match, Marks and Spencer vouchers and a mountain bike with safety equipment.
There was a more serious side to all the fun, however, with information and advice available on everything from training and job opportunities, to keeping fit and having a healthy BMI, reducing your carbon footprint, reporting antisocial behaviour, and fire and theft safety in the home.
Councillor Chris Naylor, Executive Member for Homes and Housing Strategy, Camden Council, said : "Lakehouse spend a lot of time in and around residents' homes while they carry out these essential improvement works. This is a great opportunity for residents and on site staff to get to know each other better. I'm thrilled that we have achieved so much during the first year of improvement works to residents' homes. The community fun day was a great way to celebrate."
