The Mulberry Centre has been recognised and rewarded with a Civic Trust Award for Community Recognition. The Victorian Grade II listed Myatt's Field Park and its buildings had become run-down. Well loved by the local community, a small group of local parents met and decided that something had to be done to stop the park's decline. They set up Myatt's Fields Park Project Group who worked with Lambeth Council and the One-O-Clock club to develop proposals to renovate and restore the park and its buildings.
Lakehouse has created an indoor play area, meeting space, small kitchen and office. The park and playgrounds are used and enjoyed by members of a whole cross-section of neighbouring communities.
The Civic Trust Awards scheme was established in 1959 to recognise the very best in architecture, design, planning, landscape and public art. Awards are given to projects of the highest quality design, but only if they are judged to have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the local community.
